When it comes to Stupefying Yarns, fan art is more than just fan art. There are many, many characters we just haven't recovered images of. All we have is our memories. Fan art is a way of bringing them to life and sharing them. For some of us, it's the only time we'll see them. Here's a few that we collectively agree on:

Thor-Ax
(or "Thor'Ax"? Debate rages)

He's a musclebound icon of SY's fantasy line, a blond Viking type carrying an battle axe. What people remember is a gleam of intelligence in the eyes. He wasn't a lunk - he had some of the funniest lines SY ever came up with.

Esme

Esme is Thor-Ax's trickster companion - part rogue, sometime magician, all-around trickster. She was clearly designed to be from a different culture than Thor'Ax - has a southern and piratical air. Olive skin, a feather earring, a short skirt and boots.

Johnny Delta

The prototype inventor/hero, Johnny wears a skintight outfit that covers torso, arms and head in one piece, and jodhpurs - the must-have clothing item for a Golden Age man of action. A little yellow crest on the helmet;

After the 1950s they added a belt with an American eagle buckle just to remove any subtlety from the equation. Out of uniform he dresses as the consummate gentleman, smoking-jacket and pipe included.

Dark Ocelot

Johnny's "friend". Did they, didn't they, would they ever?  Shoulder length black hair, a broad smile, shoulder length gloves. Her outfit's something like a strapless leotard, black of course. And the half mask patterned like an ocelot's fur. Cat ears or do I even need to say that?

According to Spink's memories the Dark Ocelot debuted maybe a minute or two after Catwoman entered the Batman universe and a last-minute name change was involved.

Leopard Men and Women of Venus

Bonus item - I will leave any details as an exercise for the artist's imagination.

Just because you left him out! It's Sly Strate relaxing after a successful punch-up with a couple of Bolshies. Sun just over the yardarm (or whatever Italians say) and a fine view of the Piazza San Marco. Hair looking a little 1950s but who's counting?

A pitch-perfect Sly! This is the guy the 17-year-old Spink pictured, trying to look suave on summer nights out...but I could never get the hair just right. Consider this the Elder Yarnie seal of approval.

There's that unique Stupefying jetpack design! Why such a tiny fuel tank? Engine? And the thigh-mounted jets.

I mean, does anyone else put it anywhere but on their back?

The most underrated heroine there is. It looked *very* different in the 1930s and 1940s when women were first going to work in factories. Lara Croft had nothing on Flo.

Time for some Old Gnarly. I remember Esme's skin color as varying from artist to artist but I'm giving my favorite take on it. Old Gnarly was a *big* world and I like the idea of Thor'Ax and Esme as a pairing from very different cultures.

Also: Thor'Ax has lots of hair.
